TUESDAY, JULY 26, 1949 'CENSUS BUREAU: DIVISION HEADS NAMED 3Y KEATING On his return from a short visit through Southeast Alaska, Clarence P. Keating, Territorial Supervisor for the Bureau of Census, received confirmation from Washington, D.C, for engaging key personnel in Alaska branch offices. Mrs. Bonnie Jo Gronroos will be Assistant Territorial Supervisor in charge of the First Division. She has been on the staff of the Vet- erans’ Affairs Commission office since adjournment of the 1949 Legislature, during which she was secretary of the Senate. In previous sessions, she served as clerk of the House. Mrs, Gronroos resigned the first of the year as executive secre- tary of the Juneau Chapter, Ameri- can Red Cross. Mrs. Edith Little has teen em- ployed as Supervisor's Clerk. She too, will be in the headquarters office in Juneau. Both Second and Fourth Divi- sions will be served by one office— that in Fairbanks—where Paul M Solka, Jr., well known Alaska news- paperman, is to be in charge. Solka, a war veteran and a member of the Territorial Board of Veterans Affairs, has been associated with Jessen's Weekly, Fairbanks, for about six years. The Thirq Division office at An- chorage will be in charge of E. D. T. McMahon who, like Solka and Mrs. Gronroos, will have the title of Assistant Territorial Supervisor. Most recently McMahon has been a civilian auditor for the U.S. Army at Fort Richardson. He is a World War II veteran, and served three years in the Aleutians. McMahon, who has been in the Territory five years, had good experience in training personnel and in organi- zational background, according to) Keating. He is a graduate of South- ern Methodist University. McMahon was to arrive in Ju- ‘neau today and Solka is due to- | morrow. The three assistant super- visors will be indoctrinated within the next few days and commence ithe Territorial business census im- mediately on completion of their training.
