PRICE* | 7:20 p. m. C.I. 0. HALL All Members Urged to Attend YOTERS of ALRSKA HERE are the FACTS The Democratic party of Alaska took cver both houses of the Alaska legislature in 1933. Their first act was to pass legislation to strengthen the bank- ing system. Thousands of banks were closing all over the nation, sur financial structure was in a tailspin. The result of this legis- lation was that not cne bank in Alaska closed its doors and not a penny was lost by depositors. Succeeding legislatures, under Democratic leadership, con- tinued to pass legislation designed to help the greatest number of | Jeweler switched to Calvert Reserve because| Calvert is smoother. *of 5037 N. A matchless record was made without interruption in all l f phases of government. The Territory for the first time was reap- ing the benefits of legislation long overdue in every line of human endeavor. This continued without abatement until the session of 1947, when the Republicans succeeded in taking over the legislature and electing presiding officers in both houses. The record of this Republican-deminated legislature is one of failure. They failed in every way to meet the needs of the people. Excellent tax bills were defeated. Appropriations were made without in any way providing the necessary funds. Bills providing for home rule were ruthlessly rejected. Social services that were the pride of the Terrtiory were neglected as never before. The legislature ad- journed without, in any way, meeting the needs of the Territory. In 1948 the Democratic party met in ccnvention assembled and after a therough discussion among delegates drawn from all walks In life, wrote a platform that is a great credit to a great party. The needs of all of our people were carefully considered and beneficial legislation never before contemplated was recommended and adopted by the convention. The convention adjourned with a sense of work well done and pride in accomplishment. Compare this with the Republicans. They had not only one, biit two conventions. One in Sitka and another at Mt, McKinley Park. ‘These conventions did net adopt any platform. They did not offer anything to the people of Alaska. Their entire time was taken up with bickering over who would get the patronage or jobs in the évent of a change in. the national administration. They sent TWO contesting delegations back to their national convention and brought ridicule on their party and confusion as to the needs of Alaska. ‘l'hq now ask your support. Do they deserve it?
