The project was completed ahead of schedule because of the unusual number of clear days since June. {All of Southeast Alaska from the {boundary line at Portland Canal to Yakutat was covered. This pho- tographic mission was probably jone of the largest single projects of this eype ever completed, and the Navy Department is to be complimented on a job well done, Six Navy Neptune two engine medium , bombers were converted by the Navy for the photographic mission. Pictures were taken at 20,000 feet with two separate cam- jera motintings. A" §ix ihch cam- era taking vertical pictures on a scale of cne to 40,000 was used for a complete coverage for the U. S. Geclogical Survey. Two twelve inch cameras mount- ed tandem taking 18 degrees of ob- lique from split wvertical on a ,scfile of one to 20,000 were used |to obtain a full caverage for the Forest Service. The Forest Service pictures come in pairs with pic- tures to the right and left on the flight line. Both sets of pictures, weighing about one ton, will be forwarded to the Forest Service in Juneau where they will be mounted for use and fone set returned to the Divi office concerned. The pictur they will ke of great value to both | the Geological Burvey and the For- {est Service in completing inven- tories of mineral and forested lands.
