THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER AUGUST WAS DRY MONTH; SUNSHINE VALUES WERE LOW The month of August was quite dry, receiving only half as much rain as last year. The average temperature was normal, but a new | re¢ord minimum was established when' the emperature dropped to 36 degrees in the city and 27 de- grees at the airport. Sunshine values were low, in that only* 38 percent of the amount possfble was received. The pre- vailing winds were northerly, un- der ‘10 mph, which accounts in part for the low temperature and precipitation values. Near the end of the month the approach’ of autumn was herald- ed by southerly winds, low cloudi- ness and a few days of heavy rain. Comparative data for the city and airport based on city office means as of 1943 follow: Highest temperature: 87 in 1923; this August—city 78, airport 75.
