'FEATURE "NIGHT "IN PARADISE” AT Ends Tonight /i1y, g CAPITOL THEATRE 'NIGHT m | “Night in P;;:m." technicolor feature is at the Capitol Theatre. | All elements of entertainment are |combined in this film. { Merle Oberon as Princess Delarai of Persia and Turhan Bey as Aesop, | fable teller of Samos, co-star as lov- lers against the setting of ancient Greece and Lydia Miss Oberon is warm and femi- nine, and abandons rich King Cro- PARADISE” with MERLE OBERON TURHAN BEY Friday-Saturday ; esus to follow Aesop almost into § BT tragic death. Bey is fine as Aesop, making the | charaster human and telievable, | despite greybeard and hunched back | which he wears in disguise through parts of the picture. | Their love scenes are imbued with |the mysticism and glamour of the ancient world. Gale Sondergaard heads the fine supporting cast as Attosa, a sor- ceress who pulls the strings on lives of leading characters. . There are breathtakingly lovely handmaidens, occupied in polish- ing goldfish, garbing Miss O:eror and decorating the settings. There are two bath sequences ot DeMille lavishness. Miss Oberon is in one, Gomez in the other. In the story,-Miss Oberon comes to Lydia to marry Croesus. Arriving |at the same time is the bearded Bey, serving as ambassador from [ tiny Samos, with whom Croesus wants war. Miss Oberon hates Bey because | he gains Creesus’ favor, but when Bey appears in her apartment as & young man, they fall in love. She runs off with him to the temple of the Oracle at Delphi, where they are | almost killed | The story takes an odd comedy twist for the finish.
