TUESDAY, JULY 6, 1948 LORETTA KETHAHN CROWNED QUEEN OF ATH CELEBRATION Miss Loretta Keithahn wds crowned Juneau's 4th of July Queen at the Coronation Ball held in the Eiks Ballroom Saturday evening. Queen Loretta I was gowned in a dress of yellow chiffon and carried a beuquet of American Beauty roses. Mayor Hendrickson performed the official honors and George Play- don Jr. was crown bearer. Loretta I was presented with a round trip plane ticket to Seattle and will have a week’s stay in the| States with all expenses paid. Miss Tillie Martin was awarded the honor ¢ bemng first princess. | Princess Tillie looked beautiful in a gown of white embroidered organdy. Her only jewelry was a small gold cross at her neck. She was given a | reund trip ticket to Anchorage and will have a week's stay there with il expenses paid. Miss Bonnie Chesney was award- ed (hird place in the Queen’s con- test. She chose a gown of white chif- fon styled with a tiered skirt of net for the occasion. Miss Sperling was the fourth member of the Queen’s Court. Princess Mary’s dress was de- signed with a red bodice and bright- ly fiowered skirt. Princess Bonnie and Mary each received a check from the 4th of July committee. Following the coronation, the Queen's Waltz was enjoyed by members of the Royal Court. A detachment of Marines was on hand to clear an aisle through the crowd of spectators. * Queen Loretta I, who was spon- sored by the American Legion and other organizations received 238,- 500 votes and Princess Tillie Mar- tin, who was sponsored by the Filipino Community, ran a close second with 230,100, votes.
