WELCOME IS GIVEN AT ANCHORAGE FOR JUNEAU BOY SCOUTS A wire has been received at Scout ecutive Maurice Powers, announcing the safe arrival in Anchorage of the Juneau, Sitka and Ketchikan “ Senior, Scouts, who left Saturday by plane to attend the All-Alaska Air Scout Encampment. Enroute they picked up 14 Ket- chikar: Senior Scouts, 10 of whom are members of the recently formed Air Scout Squadron, sponsored by the Ketchikan Post No. 3, American Legion. With the eight Sitka boys was their first officer, Clare Swan- son, Included in the Sitka party was Scout Robert Franks, who rep- resented Alaska at the 1947 World Scout Jamboree in Paris. Juneau boys attending the en- campment are: Gerald Shaw, Don- ald MacKinnon, Stephen Johnson, Hayes Miller, Leo Osterman and William Johnson. = The Southeast £roup. will. join 100 Scouts from.the interior and westward at Anchorage where they will be the guetss of the 57th Fighter Group, U. 8. Air Forces. The Air Force has planned a pro- gram of instruction and fun for the boys, supplemented by sightseeing tours and many other interesting items arranged by the Anchorage District Committee for their enter- tainment. First on the program will be a lecture on aerodynamics, followed by a guided tour of the jet and P-51s, a visit to the 57th Fighter Group's briefing room where experts will explain the making, folding and working of parachutes.
