More Debt Permissible Mayor Hendrickson explained that the City has a present bonded in- dekLtedness of cnly $180,000. He said that the law permits a maximum of approximately $1,300,000 at the present time. The Mayor declared that a 20 year issue 6f general ob- ligation bonds, to cover the proposed expenses, would require an annual additional payment, including prin- cipal and interest at three percent, or $21,000. Annual payments on present Londs, said the Mayor, amount to $26,770. This will drop to $15,500 ir 1955 and to $9,000 in 1956. The obli- gation will be erased in April 1959. City Tec Rent Schools Maycr Hendrickson also explained that the City cannot transfer its bonded indebtedness on its school buildings to the new independent school district. This, he said, can be made up by charging the new school district a reasonalle rental for the buildings until the obligation is paid. He reported that it now am- ounts to approximately $48,000. City Engineer James L. McNa- mara explained that present main- tenance costs for some streets in the city are as much as it would cost to pave them Chamber President W.
