This thriller opens at the Cap- | itol Theatre Sunday. Randoph Scott, Rotert Ryan, Anne Jeffreys and George “Gabby” Hayes are starred in the turbulent drama of the bitter feud between cowmen and farmers, The trail drivers of those da; moving their cattle to the railroad, drove the herds over farmlands, des troying the new crops and creating a reign of terror The cowmen have sheriff of the small town of Liberal, and the desperate farmers, ruin star- ing them" in the face, send for the| redoubtable “Bat” to help them “Bat” fearlessly goes about his job, Lut it is not until after bitter fight- |ing, ending in a large-scale battle for posgession of the town, that the farmers succeed in establishing law and order. | Scott has the best role of his career as Masterson. Ryan is a land agent who telieves in the future of Kansas as a grain-producing state, Miss Jeffreys is a cabaret singer who dies heroically in the final bat- tle, and “Gabby” Hayes is an old livery stable keeper who becomes a reluctant deputy-marshal when he is sworn in by “Bat.” Heading the supporting cast are Madge Mere- dith, Steve Brodie, Virginia Sale, Harry Woods, Phil Warren, Harry Harvey and Jason Robards e .. — - VETERANS URGED 10 CHECK THER BENEFICIARIES The Alaska veterans with G. 1. insurance now in force were urged today by the Veterans Administra- tion to be certain that names of de- sired Leneficiaries are on record in VA msurance files. If a veteran neglects to designate his intended beneficiary, much delay and controversial action may result at time of settlement, the VA repre- sentative pointed out, Also, if no ben- | eficiary is named, the VA must pay a deceased veteran’s insurance to his estate. This makes it subject to probate and other costs. Legal blanks for naming or mak- ing changes in beneficiaries to Uni- ted States Government Life Insur- ance are available at any VA office. Veterans are advised to take along their insurance certificate and other correspondence from the VA in ord- er to avoid errors E. B, Lincoln, VA Manager also reminded veterans in this area they may still reinstate, at no extra cost, lapsed GI insurance policies. Until July 31, 1948, most policies may be revived without a physical examina- | tion to re-determine insurability. >>e OPEN HOUSE ON USCG WACHUSETT THiS AFTERNOON Gastineau Channel residents were reminded again today by Comman- der E.
