These volunteer workers ROTARY FIRESIDE CHATS TO RESUME The Rotary Club was entertained today with a musical program by Dick Wingerson and Claire Folta. Wingerson played two numbers on the Alto Sax, “Tyrolea Fantasia” and “Nola,” accompanied by Miss Folta at the piano. President Homer Garvin read a letter of thanks from the Sitka High School in regard to the en- tertainment their basketball team received while in the Capital City. Garvin also announced there are five fireside chats scheduled for the rest of this week including Monday of next week as follows: Host, to ¢roup 1, Jack Burford, will hold a Wednesday evening meeting at his home at 8 o'clock. All members and others in- terested are urged to attend. ‘The Mayor will discuss plans for the civic and recreational center, |the airport and other city building plans. At an Executive Board meeting this week, it was decided the club would take charge of enrolling resi- dents for the free chest X-ray pro- gram which will include all the resi- dents of Gastineau Channel. 2 g A NEW AUTO FOR PATROL The Territorial Highway Patrol accepted delivery of a new Ply- mouth sedan yesterday afternoon The car is painted a bright gree and has the Highway Patrol in- signia inscribed on the doors. The new car will be used in Juneau and the Hudson, formerly on this patrol, will be transferred to Haines when Patrolman Al Lubcke moves there in the near iuture. ————————— Empire Wantaas 1or Best Results TUESDAY, MARCH 2, 1948 RUDES RETURN HOME; EXPERIENCE SEVERE WEATHER DURING TRIP Dr. and Mrs. J. O. Rude return- ed to Juneau over the weekend af- ter a six-week vacation and busi- ness trip to the states. Dr. Rude was to attend a school in Portland, Ore., but due to plane connections heing late missed the classes and spent the time visiting. The Rudes spant some time in the east visiting Dr. Rude's 86- year-old mother in Grand Forks, North Dakota, where the temper- ature was 32 below. In St. Paul, Minn., they had the opportunity to see their two sons and their daughter and grandchild and also attended the Ice Carnival in that city. Dr. Rude also attended the Mayo Clinic. On their return trip to Juneau they visited Mrs. Rude's family in Cut Bank, Mont, and Mrs. Rude stated this morning that during their first hour in Cut Bank the temperature dropped from 40 above to 15 degrees below zero. e — — Donald T.
