PAGESX ___ ALASKA SCOUTS MAKE RECORD AT NEW MILESTONE Council O—nglwo Years 0ld This Month-Mem- bership Takes Jump The Alaska Council, Boy Scouts of America, is two years old this month. It is the largest area Council in the worl the smallest in membership. Today and two years ago was in 1947. Other outstanding events of ess for the Boy Scouts as re- corded by the official tabulation showed the Alaska Council had 86 percent of its Scouts in summer camp last year and that a greater percent of boys read Boys' Life Mag- azine than any other Council in the Northwest The Council was organized under Hanks, who came to the Territory as a Special Regional Deputy and was later employed by the Alaska Coun- cil as their Scout ive. Hanks has served the Territory for three years. He has recently accepted a position of advancement to the Ore- Ida Council, located at Nampa, Ida- o, and will leave February 29, on the Aleutian.
