D. Stewart, Chapter Ch nan announced to- day. The national Red Cross goal s sT’y 000,000. of the Chapter’s ota Will be channeled to the na- rganiza used to f ql be he N ) replenis depleted du year of since be used t greatly ons grea vements, Stewart said. ctivities of the Juneau Chapter are in a large part composed of Home Service, a wide variety of wel- fare services provided in time of need. To those in uniform, it is the ever-present link with home and family. Home Service workers aid in personal and family problems; in proviiing financial assistance, if necessary, in offering guidance, counsel, and information in many other matters. Home Service Fund Loans and Grants for the period October 1, 1946 to June 30, 1947 amounted to $6,595.58. In most cases these were emer- gency loans urgently required for a specific purpose, although some were direct grants in relief cases which uther agencies in the city were un- able to assist. It is interesting to note, said Stew- art, that of the expenditures for Home Service Loans, $5,641.27 had been repaid as of September, 1947. Disbursements in Juneau for the |period July 1 to Dec. 31, 1947 were |also mainly for Home Service Loans land Grants and totalled $2,140.53. | Actual administration costs of the (local chapter are modest since only | the Executive Secretary, Bonnie Jo | Gronroos, is paid a salary. All other | work is performed by volunteers. Be- {cause of the many exigencies during {the winter, the Executive Secretary |1s employed during those months on a full-time basis; but during the {spring and summer months is on a | part-time basis. Besides the regular chapter ac- Itivities, plans for 1948 friclude more First Aid instruction for advanced |students and also beginners. A Jun- jfor Red Cross will be inaugurated in | the schools. > ALASKA COASTAL FLIES 23 ON WEEKEND FLIGHTS Alaska Coastal made few flights over the weekend and carried 23 | passengers as follows: Juneau to Sitka: Alex Kangin, | Del Hanks, Mrs. Del Hanks, Mr. Bal- 'lm"er Mrs. Ballinger, H. She claims the child was result of a long romance with Beery, now 63. Beery must appear to show cause March 2 why he should not give temporary support pending the suit.
