S. Public Health Department has arrived here to consult with s of the Territorial Health Department on the hospital sur- vey authorized by Congress last year The Hospital struction Act, which was passed in 1946, provides for a national ram of coordinated hospital ms within each state and terri- Survey and Con- The Alaska survey, financed by a Federal appropriation, has been conducted by Miss Gertrude Wet- zel, Hospital Administrater, who was a ned to the task in No- vember of last year. Dr. Rose has gone over the plan with Health Department author- ities, and a date for a public hearing on the proposal will be announced later by Dr. C. E. Al- brecht. According to the Congressional Act, Federal appropriations will Le allocated to each state and territory on a basis of $1 for ‘ev- ery $2 contributed by the states ‘The purpose of the Act is to make hospital facilities available to all persons, particularly those in outlying areas where hospital- ization has heretofore been inade- quate. The proposed system will guard against any kind of discrimination, and will enable groups less akble to pay to obtain the benefits of hospital care. The funds will be distributed where most needed, to construct general hospitals, tuberculosis san- atoriums, foundations for mental and chronic diseases, and public health centers. Dr. Rose is Senior Surgeon of District 5 of the U. S. Public Health Service. The district in- cludes Washington, Oregon, Cali- fornia, Nevada, Arizona, Alaska, and Hawail. He consulted with department heads in Hawaii last spring, but so far only Washington and Cali- fornia have submitted their plans. The Alaska. plan is virtually completed, and after it has been duly publicized, will be consider- ed in an open hearing. Upon completion of the survgys, state plans are forwarded to the Surgeon General at Washington, D. C, and Federal funds are al- lotted upon his approval. e TO WHOM iT MAY CONCERN From this date on I will not be responsible for any bills or debts incurred by Mrs. May White.
