THURSDAY AUGUST 14 R. H. WILLIAMS IS TAKEN BY DEATH Long Time Resident of Ju- neau Passes Away Last Night R. H. Wilhams, Sr, well-known resident of Juneau for 20 years, passed away last night at St. Ann's Hospital. He would have been 90 years old next March Born in Portage City, Wisconsin, March 5, 1858, Mr. Williams spent his childhcod in that city. As a young \man he went west tc the Black Hills of Wyoming, taking up land near Sundance on which he ranched with his father and broth- €rs. At Sundance, with his wife Bertha Alden Williams, he , pub- lished an early newspaper, the Wycming Freesman. The Williams Divide in Wycming was named for him. In 1900, small sen, and and taking his wife Dick, his stepson stepdoughter, Reo Wilcoxin and the now Mrs. Albert White, he loaded his family into two canvas topped wagcns drawn by four- horse teams and started for ‘West Coast With one of the first movie pro- jectcrs and films, enroute he pre- sented the first movies to be seen in that section of the country With Reo Wilcoxin lecturing and shewing slides of the Passion Play, they made their way to Boise, Ida., where they decided to stay. At Boise, he went into the real cstate business, continuing there urtil 1927 when he came to Juneau In Juneau Mr. Williams was own- cr and cperator of the Seaview Apartments which he sold only Jast year because of his failing health. It was that he made his first plane trip, flying south to visit relatives California, Idahc, Oregon and Washington He is survived by cne son, Dr R. H.
