On the rising tides, ice has lifted the pilings along the inner float, and broken many of the capping timbers. The pilings are old, and were to have been replaced last fall. The work was not completed, however, before the returning fish- ing fleet filled the boat harbor so full of craft that the pile driver could not work. The City has kept a continuous patrol on the float for the past few dys, to guard against fire. The patrol also worked to keep the ice off pilings which were in danger of being lifted up by the ice and left to fall on boats. Boat cwners were warned today by the Mayor to keep careful watch on their craft in_the harbor with the break in-the cold weather which was forecast today. It is feared that many of the boats which have | been frozen in may lose their caulklng and begin to take water. | The City patrol will not be respon- | sible for the sinking of any boats | which have been left unattended b} the owners.
