The candidates on this ficket will use their best efforts fo ascertain and revive those unfair assessmenis established in 1945 and will continue throughout the year to employ an assessor for a complete review of all assessments. The fax assessment notices mailed in June will not reflect a complete new assessment, but many of the gross injustices can be, by that time, eliminated. Moreover, every taxpayer should be given the opporiunity to be heard in August when the Council meets as a Board of Equalization. We believe that the Territorial law should be strictly followed and that all property should be assessed, including personal property, at its actual market value. We do not - believe property can be assessed by zoning the city and applying different rates for two adjoining pieces of property because they are on opposite sides of a zone boundary. We do not believe assessment should be on the basis of the cubic content of the building and its age, without regard to its condition. We recommend the employment of a full-time assessor, familiar with the prices at which property is bought and sold in Juneau and that he be ass1gned such other duties in connection wnh safety inspection and sanitation as will not conflict with his duties as an assessor.
