Dr. Ensch and Mr. Caim in May, 1930, made a trip on a| fisherman’s boat from Pe(ersburg‘ to Wrangell together to avoid the delay of waiting a week for a boat | to return to Wrangell, they also travelled by bus from Valdez to| Fairbanks and across the Gulf of ! Alaska together. James Hammack, local attorney, saw a picture of the Curry Hotel on rhe Alaska railroad where he was a guest on his trip north in 1940, vhen he met Mr. Cain, and heard the latter relate how Mr. Hammack got off the train on a small sta- tion ‘along the railroad and started nis 12 mile hike through an un- familiar area to inspect some min- ing ground. Mr. and Mrs Blackie Portous saw in the pictures Professor Henry A. Harmon, formerly of Eau Galle, Wis.,, Mrs. Portous’ girlhood home where she and Professor Harmon were schoolmates Mrs. H. B. Nelson of Burlington, a sister of W. P. Johnson of Ju- neau, and her husband, and Mr. and Mrs. H B. Nelson of Mount Vernon, the latter an aunt of Mr. Johnson, were present. - - BUILDING PERMITS Building permits issued here by City Engineer J. L. McNamara during the past week went to: John Conn, for erection of a tool shed and shop, 327 Franklin street, estimated cost $200; Royal Blue Cab Co., for remodeling and con- struction of addition to open park- ing space for taxis, on Franklin street at First, $500, Charles Boyer contractor; B. E. Knudson, instal- lation of automatic oil burner at 109 Willoughby avenue, $325, Smith Oil Burner Co. contractor; Mar- shall Erwin, for installation of unit heaters, oil burner and boiler unit at Case Lot Grocery, $1,180, Smith il Burner Co. contractor. D GHIGLIONE WITH ARC Mr. and M. A. F. Ghiglione and their two deughters, Ann and Kay, returned to their former home nchorage this winter after sev- eral years absence during which Mr. Ghiglione was on active duty with the Navy. Mr. Ghiglione has resumed his position with the Alaska Road | Commission which he held for a number of years before being called into active duty.
