MONDAY, DECEMBER 3, 1945 CADETS T0SS OFF NAVY FOR SECOND UNMARRED SEASON Trojans Roll Over Uclans Info Rose Bowl Before Greatest Gathering By MURRAY ROSE NEW YORK, Dec. 3—The football season is finished except for the Bowl festivals and the East-West, North-South games, but the thou- sands of fans who saw Army’s record busting array in action probably will be talking about this peerless grid machine uptil another fall cam- paign rolls around. In beating Navy 32-13 Saturday for their ninth straight victory this year and their 18th in a row over two seasons, Coach Earl Blaik's re- peating national champions became the first Cadet corps ever to go through two campaigns with perfect records and the first to win more than 16 games in succession. It was Doc Blanchard and Glenn Davis again who led the Cadets to vietory in their 46th climactic clash with Navy and those two All- Americas will be back in Army’s colors next year. Between them they scored all five of the Cadet's touchdowns with the big pile-driving fullback racking up three and the flashy Davis hotfooting it for two. The victory was Army’s 24th in the series that started in 1890 Army scored three touchdowns in the first period and one each in the third and fourth, while Navy picked up its touchdowns in the second and fourth periods, the lat- ter cn a one-foot buck through the middle of Army's varsity line It was the first time Army regulars had been scored upon by rushing this year. A cell-out crowd of 102,000 specta~- ters, including President Truman, saw the service classic in Philadel- phia’s wind-swept municipal sta- dium, but the top throng of the day was gathered in Los Angeles Me- morial Colissum where 103,000 fans watched Southern California’s Tro= Jjans defeat UCLA, 256-15 and earn the right to meet Alabama in the Rose Bowl. Alabama wound up its campaign unbeaten and untied, slaughtering Miscissippi State 55-13 as Harry Gil- mer put on another impressive aer- ial display by completing 13 of 19 passes for two tuchdowns. The only bowl vacdncy left is in Miami where the Orange Bowl com- mittee today will pick an opponent for Holy Cross. that position are University of Mia- mi (Florida), Tennessee, Louisiana State and Georgia Miami furthered its chances by walloping Auburn, 33-7, Friday night, while the contenders also staged impressive closing day gia wrapped up the state title by leads | performances Saturday. clinched second place in the Southeastern Conference by benefit trouncing Vanderbilt, 45-0; Louisiana licity efforts, may get his first real State won the battle of the bayous test tonight when he faces Lee Sa- by whipping Tulane, 33-0; and Geor- vold at St In the r nning for Tenne to Alabama came overwhelming Georgia Tech, 33-0. - e Sporis Briefs THE DAILY ALASKA EMPIRE—JUNEAU, ALASKA « JUNEAU CRIMSON BEARS WIN OVER BY 35-29 SCORE STANDING Juneau High—won 2 out of 2. !
