PAA-SIGNACS IN TRIPLE TIE CAGE GAME LASTNIGHT, Emerging spent but victorious in a 37 to 35 triple-tie game with the Signacs, Pan American's Clipper team again stole top grandstand honors in last night's second double- he of the Qity Basketball Leaguc. Juneau High's second string team, pinch hitting for Cyane, | previously -scheduled; but unable to| ceme in from Ketchikan for the game, was soundly defeated in a 36 tc 19 point game with Subport's tzam Unfor ely, the Clipper-Signac | game, that all but bordered on the hysterical, played to a sparsely filled | grandstand. The weather conditions | caw>d many Juneau basketball I’m\sg to miss what may not have been the best basketball game to be pla; ed in the league, but was certainly cne of the most exciting Signacs Spark As in last week’s opening game of the League, Pan American started off with no definite show of bril-| liant basketball playing. Passwork | was clean and sharp one moment | and fuzzy the next. Shooting in pro- | pertion to attempts made was not impressive. It was the Signac team that locked better than eyer before. | Even with almost constant mass! changing of the Signac player there was keen cooperation and pass k on the floor. The Signac pla €15 were faster and more tenacio with the ball than previously. They shewed a new kind of spark not | noticeable last week when the Ju- ! 1 Crimson Bears so far outclass- | ¢d them. All of which had little or no im-}| pression on the tall boys from the PAA. The Clipperites appureml,\'t had decided to win if it took them all night—and win they did. And it appeared for a while that is might | indeed take them all night | Four Tries | After a 16 to 16 score ending the first quarter, the Signac-Clip- per game settled down to a win-or- l‘ die deadlock that rocked from 23 to 23 at th2 end of the second quar- | ter, PAA’s 29 to 27 margin in the, third, and a final game score of | 29 to 29. A play-off, thrilling not because of any exceptional all-over sketball playing, but because both tcams were fighting as though the Olympic Championship were in the offing. The play-off ended 33 to 33. A second three-minute playoff ended 35 to 35. Finally o “Quick Death” session in which the first team t@ score wins, gave the vietory to PAA, and relief to the too-tense cxcitement of the onlookers. Wilson High Scorer Wilson, high scoring man for the PAA, with a final total of 19 points, was almost as good on pass work as! he was on field shots. Second high man was Gregory with 10 points, all field goals, to his credit. Individual | shecting, with the exception of field goals, was good in most cases.. Outstanding on the hard-fighting Signac machine was Scott, with four field goals, Thibodeau with three and McDonnell with three. Thes2 men played the kind of ball that could in time make the Signacs a strong, competent team. ¢ Over-anxiety, excitement and fumbles kept both the Signacs and | Clipper teams from playing grace- ful, fast ball, but whatever kind of play they were playing had as much G. A. or grandstand appeal as the PIRE—JUNEAU, ALASKA smoothest game that -will prabably ever be played at Juneau Husky Second String The Huskies, Jr., team, or Setond Stringers, made much of their big chance to shine last night. Schmitz, a fast conscientious little player,.did everything but multiply himself to convince his opponents that he was three times his size. His exhaustive efforts paid off in only one field goal for himself, but his animated dash- ings and passing were instrumental in sinkingsmany of the Sacond’s field goals. Logan and Klein were two more Huskies, Jr., players that had strong playing and definite first string potentialities last night Krogman, newly-returned to the Subport team following an illness, was high-point man on the Subport team, with seven field goals to his credit. Second high man was Kess- nick, with five field goals While Kessnick appeared to be the hub of an under-the-basket set up ma- chine, Krogman played the field in a fast, almost-professional manner. Together the two men took advan- tage of every possible strong point in their teammate's pass work.
