Smith, Sector Man- ager for Pan American Airways, and J. V. Roscoe, Assistant Sector | Traffic Manager, have arrived here jto attend the Civil Aeronautics Board meeting tomorrow. They plan to spend a week or so here in Juneau and attend to business matters that have arisen at the Pan American office here. The main object of their which will take in their offices in Fairbanks and Nome, is the postwar planning for the coming (tourist travel. Pan American has 'an extensive sales organization all lover the United States and plans for expansion are already being made. | The general public is already cotiscious of the “lute of Alaska” but, as Mr. Roscoe pointed out, accommodaticns, travel, entertain- ment, etc., is still a mystery and the time to start educating the public is now. | Proof of the -consciousness of Alaska by the public is the Time Magazine survey of 1500 subscrib- ers, picked at random. This survey asked three questions in regard to countries out of the United States: 1—How many have visited. 2—How many expect to visit in the next five years. 3—How many hope to visit. On question No. 1 in this survey, Alaska stood in fourteenth place; on question No. 2, Alaska took third place, and on No. 3, Alaska stood in first place, taking 35 per cent of the total. Roscoe and Smith will also look over the new office facilities, which will be in the Baranof Hatel, opening sometime about May visit, be interested in talking to anyone in Juneau who is interested in the question of the proposed terminal building at the Juneau airport. To date, 11 trips a week are beirlg made in each direction be- tween Fairbanks and Seattle. The schedule, however, will be ex- panded about the middle of May to two trips daily. — e—— DR.
