The meeting was preceded by a dinner, which was served to thirty- one members by a committee com- | posed of Mesdames Hansen, Bene- dict and Day. The women not only cooked and served the dinner, but provided for the beautiful decora- tions as well. Mrs. Rasmussen acted as toastmistress fo rthe occasion Mrs. Norde was introduced during the dinner hour and spoke briefly, telling of the work that the out- going President had done in the two years that she held office. Mrs. Folander, Past President, gave a short talk, along with a former members, Mrs. Boyle, who was visit- | ing in the city. Mrs. Boyle told of | the importance of the women sit- ting in on the Peace Conference, the club having already gone on | 1ecord to have Mrs. Whitehurst as their choice of a woman to attend the International Peace Conference A letter was read from the chair- | man of the office of the Maritime Commission, suggesting that the City have a representative in Portland, Oregon, at the launch- ing of the Victory ship which was to be named after the City of Skag- way. Mrs. Tunnley, the newly el- ected President, who was: planning a trip South, was asked by the club to be present at the launching. The club voted to assist the City Couneil in raising money for the purpose of, purchasing a suitable gift to be | presented to the crew of the ship. Mesdames Blum, Wasser and Sip- perell were selected as a committee to attend to the matter. Mrs. Benedict, Chairman of the Orthopedic Penny Drive, reported that about $135 had been collected. Members were asked to assist Mrs in in making a survey of all rdens in Skagway. Mrs. Carroll agreed to have her 4-H girls aid with the project The poppy sale was announced by Mrs. Ray Day, Chairman, as a suc- cess, with over $135 being turned over to the Juneau American Leg- ion Auxiliary. Assisting Mrs. Day during the sales were Mesdames Brown, Everson, Blum, Carroll, Bar- rington, Mason, Masters, Tunnely, Nord, Rapuzzi, Madson, Sparks and Miss Setton.
