It's happening in New York, where the trend of the times has impelled a top-flight hair stylist, de Gez, to give her clients lessons in home-made coiffures. It may mean less business for the| hairdresser, says Lura, but after| all, this is war-time, and girls| who work long hours at new jobs' often don't have time to get mo- fessionally beautified. So the self-service hairdo course | is born. It teaches busy girls how to brush, shampoo and re-style their hair, even to the mysterious business of producing a finger wave with the aid of water and bobby pins. The first thing stressed is thor- ough brushing, with the head down to stimulate circulation in the scalp. This should be done before and after the home shampoo. There's a trick to giving your- self a professional-looking finger wave. Girls are taught to wind the not from the scalp, fasten them neatly with one bobby pin, with the end of the hair tucked under- | neath. The curls should be pinned in even rows around the head, with no loose ends waving in the breeze. After the last pin is in place, the hair is covered with a large tri- angle net, tied securely around the head with a knot in front.
