KETCHIKAN . REQUESTS OPA AMENDMENTS Ask. Modification of OPA Regulations for Re- failers in Alaska Ketchikan merchants, through the Alaska Merchants’ Association, have recommended unanimously that OPA regulations as pertaining to Alaska be amended in certain respects according to a wire re- ceived by the Juneau Chamber of Commerce today. Juneau merchants and other mer- chants throughout the Territory have been requested to join the Ketchikan retailers in recommend- ing the changes. Today, letters quoting the wire have been mailed to all Juneau merchants by the Retail Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and local retailers are requested to | reply, expressing their views. The replies to the local poll on this | subject should be in the hands of | Charles W. Carter before noon on Monday. Text of the wire which was re- ceived by the Chamber of Com- merce follows: “Undersigned unanimously joined in sending following wire to Mil- dred Hermann Price Administrator. “Recommend regulations be amend- ed to permit use of June, 1942, re- tail prices as ceiling because no profiteering on those prices. “Further reason is because regu- lations patently unfair to retailers because inability to make percent- |age markup over costs since the |use of March costs and November dollars and cents markup results in merchants selling below per- centage of cost markup necessary | to stay in busiress. “Also does not permit increase in overhead between November and June to be included in markup. | “Further recommend that no cost prices or markup.be shown in re- port because such records public property and is publication of trade ag*® FOOD Will Win the War SAVE SAVE SAVE vir .
