Montgomery, gas warfare expert, talked on methods of combatting various types of gas at a public meeting held last night at the Grade School auditorium under the sponsorship of the local Civilian Defense Council. The manner in which the various types of gas can be distinguished was explained by Lieut. Mont- gomery as well as the effects and methods of combatting them. Dancing will follow the special music and speakers, LOCAL GARDENER OFFERS HOPE TO POTATO GROWERS Deep concern has been expressed by Juneau gardeners regarding the blight that has struck at locally grown potatoes. According to one Juneau gardener, who has studied the diseased potatoes, it corres- ponds to the ‘black blight' or ‘black leg’ described in the Ency- clopedia Britannica. Britannica states that the only product to use in combatting the ‘black blight’ is the Bordeau mixture, Further research in Columbia Encyclopedia gave the prescription | for the Bordeau mixture. It states | the mixture is a fungicide made by | combining bluestone, or copper sul- phate; lime and water in varying proportions. The original formula | is given as follows: 16 pounds cop- per, sulfate, mixed with 30 pounds of lime and 28 gallons of water.
