Recently | purchased by ‘Bud Dodson of Ju- neau, the old carriage and other parts of the mill still in restorable condition for renewed service are to be remaved to Lemon Creek where a new mill will be built. First ‘started by Capt. Green in the late eighties, dccording to some of the Channel's real oldtimers, this machinery, soon %o be in op- | eration again, turned out most of the lumber for many of the first buildings erected here and in Ju- neau. Early in the 1800's the saw- mill became the property of Ak- ner Murray who continued its op- eration for a time providing his brother John with lumber for build- ings which he erected and sold on the open market. Finally retiring from active life they in turn sold the sawmill, which had its loca- tion on lower Front Street, to Verr. Saylor. The latter spént time ana money in remodeling' the plant but realized very little, finally ‘leaving it dormant and some of the ma- chinery to become unfit for fur- ther use. — .- GIRL SCOUTS RECEIVE CERTIFICATES Dquglas Girl Scouts. held their regular meeting at the school yes- Miss McNeill, all present including in the near future. 7 was presented with her certificate THE DAILY ALASKA EMPIRE ‘|| tion-wide effort to accelerate the!Last publication, March 26, 1942. terday afternoon with their leader their mascot Beth Fleek.
