He plans to return in about six weeks. —,—e—— 'SALE OF BOATS - TO ALIENS HIT BY NEW ORDER The Juneau Customs office today started issuing warnings to boat owners and boat builders, notify- ing them of a new provision under the declared national emergency which forbids them allowing any non-citizen to buy, lease or take a financial interest in any ship under U. S. registry, or building any boat for an alien, without first obtaining approval from the U. S. Maritime Commission. The new law comes as an amend- ! ment to Section 37 of the Shipping Act of 1916. As a part of President Roosevelt’s declared state of na- tional emergency, it is aimed at pre- vention of any alien group getting any hold on American shipping facilities or securing boats now under 1 U. 8. registry, . F MEN T0 CONDUCT: CAA HEARINGS 10 BE HERE TONIGHT Due_to pass through Juneau onh the Columbia tonight are Raymond W. Stough, director of the Bureau of Economic Research, and William J. Madden, attorney for the Civil Aeronautits Administration, on their way to Anchorage fo open public hearings on the granting of public convenience and necessity to Alaska air carriers. They are dus to be joined here by Mr. and Mrs. John Newman. Newman, local court reporter, will accompany them gs a reporter for testimony offered at the hearings. Stough and Madden plan to open the Anchorage hearings on August 18, for air carriers of that section. On September 2, they plan to move to Fairbanks for hearings relative to applications of Interior Alaska air carriers. About September 15, they expect to be in Juneau to open hearings for seven air carrier ap- plications in this area. Fairly warm air had invaded the Ter- fitory this morning with the lowest temperature being 40 degrees recorded at Barrow. The highest temperature yesterday was 70 de- grees which was recorded at Anchorage. Rain had fallen this morn- ing ‘over Southeast Alaska and aldng the Gulf to Kodlak, also at scatbéréd points elsewhere along the coast and fain was falling this mornihg over most of this same area. The greatest amount of pre- cipitation for the 24 hours ending this morning was 14 hundredths - of an inch at Atka. Moderate ceilings and good visibilities prevailed over the Junean-Ketchikan alrway this morning. The Tuésday morning weather Chart indicated a low pressure center of 29.70 ‘inches was located at 55 degreés north and 153 de- grees west and was expected to deepen some and move slowly east diiring the next 24 Hours. A second low pressure center of 29.80 inches was located at 41 degrees north and 145 degrees west and wes expected to move slowly during the next 24 hours. A high pressure tenter of 30.35 inches was located at 36 degrees north and 171 de- grees west and'a second high pressure center of 30.25 inches was lo- cated at 45 degrees north and 126 degrees west with a high crest extending to the north.
