The economy of locating the world’s finest commercial field at Gravelly Point, where the Potomac and the Anascotia Rivers have been piling up a huge store of gravel for centuries, has been proved in final figures compiled by officers of the Corps of Engineers who lifted the airport up off the bottom of the river and laid it out in the sun to dry. i Of all the gravel necessary for aprons, runways and all airport structures, only fwo-tenths of one per cent was bought from outside. | The rest came from the bottom of the river, where there is still enough left to make a few dozen more such airports, if Uncle Sam should hap- | pen to need them along the Po- tomac. Nature Started It | Nature began grinding up this gravel with glaciers of assorted sizes . back in the second glacial period.
