Oct. 10.—Mr. Egbert Souse (pronounced So-Say, please) stood at the bar of the Black Pussy Cat, munch- ing a clove with the air of a connoisseur, tapping the counter with nervously vhythmic fingers and mumbling, or seeming about to mumble, some pearl of alcoholic wisdom.
