HALL Anchorage To Juneau Air Service Plans for the establishment of an air line from Anchorage to Juneau became known when Don Goodman, veteran Alaska pilot and air line operator, announced his resignation from the staff of Star Air Line to devote his full time to the new firm, reports the Anchorage Times. The air line, to be known as Alas- ka Air Lines, Inc.. will operate bi- | motored ships of the latest type over | the civil route now being constructed | by the Civil Aeronautics Authority. The ships will have a cruising speed of more than 200 miles an hour, | bringing Anchorage to within two | hours and 45 minutes of Juneau and, | in conjunction with the PAA air | service to Seattle, only 11 hours to | the states. Inauguration of the PAA service from Juneau to Seattle and con- struction of the civil airway by the CAA open the way for establishing the new airlines, Mr. Goodman pointed out. “There are 17,000 persons served | out of Anchorage by plane, rail andi boat to the north and west of the| city,” be said. “This figure does not include the transient summer trade. | It is sufficient to warrant the line | from Anchorage to Juneau to furn- | ish modern, speedy transportation service.” | Test flights will be run before scheduled operations can get under way. Actual operations will prob- | ably not be started until early win- | ter. The application for a certificate | of convenience and necessity from | the CAA has been filed at Wash- | ington, D. Radio and weather conditions along with other navigational aids and fields will be established at strategic points along the route. At no point will there be more than 100 miles between emergency landing fieids. Present plans call for four round- trips on schedule weekly during the summer, probably two in the winter. The planes will connect with planes and boats in Juneau.
