Of course there's Hedy Lamarr to share them with, but Claudette and Hedy (as Claudette insists right away to forestall any “feud” rumors) are the best of friends and both have equally good roles. Claudette is Gable's wifé in the picture wearing an Adrian dinner gown, very simple, very costly, of filmy white flowered in black. Program Pleases | 'The singer opened her program {with the aria “Dido’s Lament” from Henry Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas” written in 1689, which was brilliantly sung, and the Alessandro Scarlatti selection in Italian “Se Florindo e fedele” (If Florindo is faithful I will be enamored of him), was charming. ‘Another Scarlatti number “Son tuita duota” (In my sorrow life is only | cruel pain), was a melody deep with | pathes. Opening her second group of Franz | Schubert selections, all. of which were in German, she sang the ripp- |ling love lyric “Wohin" (Whither) I’l‘hen came “Der Doppelganger” (The Ghostly Double), a very trem- endous and dramatic tragedy.
