This is ylight saving time 1at this means. It means thal s and office personnel ted to be on duty one r thah in the past. It s that school will open one hour earlier than in the past jand mothers who have children (l\lm en ready for school, In mi ; at the m()(,h( and arouse the yuungsln they can get up, ha breakfast, and be ready for school more than one hour before sun- rise. That is, they would have to |go to school in the dark. Pup jl on Glacier Highway would have ;‘u» be started on their way to il school at least one and a half ho\ns before sunrise My strongest objection to the change, however, is that it repre- sents the narrow and selfish view- point of a group who look to their own selfish convenience without due regard for the rights of others. I know that those advccating the change will deny this, but the fact that it is SUBCONSCIOUS on their part makes it none the less true. If business and professional workers want to begin and quit work one hour earlier they can| well do so. All that is necessary | is to agree among themselves Lo that effect. This would in no way, | disturb those who are well adjust-| |ed and desire no change. My ob- | servation is that at least 90 percent |of the people magnify their own ‘nzhls and tend to minimize the‘ rights of others, It is this' same \und ency that has given rise m‘ pressure groups in our government, ‘-— even is a threat to democ- |== r The persons favoring the == change in time are a local repre- | sentation of a group that has al- ways been powerful all over the country. Recent years other groups have also arisen. The tendency always to disregard the rights of the great unorganized majority. Here is a chance to rebuke one group by a decisive vote against a change in time. As to time, I consider Juneau rather fortunate in that it is so close to the 135th meridian whose |time we now use. In fact the dis- |tance in time is only about two and one-half minutes. Said meri- | dian passes just west of Point Re- |treat and south through the east- jern edge of Chichagof and Bar- ‘anor Islands. The fact is that it is noon when }lhe sun crosses the meridian. To imll it 11 o'clock does not alfer |the fact and only takes us away | from reality, a thing. that is too often done in this artificial age. I defy anyone to cite a single town in the States that is so close |to a standard time meridian a Juneau is, that does not use that time. Ketchikan is much further east than Juneau, hence sun time; ORDERS * You Know . &iven Utmosl Will Be Tender AND g} UGy ! ! Consideration Spriny Clean-Up Ti Time!?
