EIGHT SENTENCED BY COURT; JURY MEETS TUESDAY Eight Criminal Triais Go on Calendar-Two More Indictments Eight prisoners who have pleaded | guilty to indictments brought by the ' Grand Jury were sentenced in Dis- trict Court today, the sentences | ranging fom 60 days in the Federal | jail to five years in McNeil Island | Federal penitentiary. Trial of eight others who pléaded innocent will begin Wednesday. The petit jury will report at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Two more indictments were re- turned today. Ralph Mendez Cordero larceny in a dwelling, bond being set at $1,000. Ed Austin was sentenced to six months in jail for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Three Contributors Benjamin Lingren was sentenced to one year, Joseph Vinson to one year and Vel Monte Morris to 60 days for contributing to the de- linquency of minors James Carpenter received a sus- pended five-year penitentiary sen- tence for burglary in a boat and store. He was paroled to a Deputy Marshal and ordered to refrain from using liquor and associating with his grandmother. Sam Jackson was sentenced to two years in McNeil Island Federal peni- tentiary for assault and battery. Albert Tucker was sentenced to 18 months in McNeil Island Federal penitentiary for assault with a dan- gerous weapon. Woman Changes Plea Mary George withdrew a previous plea of not guilty to cohabitation and entered a plea of guilty. She received a two-year suspended sen- tence and was paroled to return to Yakutat and retain custody of her two minor children. Peter Louie, who was charged along with Mrs. George, will be sentenced later.
