Aubrey Smith, Vir- ginia Field, Broderick Crawford, Raymond Walburn, ZaSu Pitts, Eve Arden, Ralph Graves, Lionel Pape, Dennie Moore, HOLLYWOOD, Cal, Nov. 16.—“Eternally Yours” is-the ro- mantic comedy of a dealer in illusions (Niven) who knows all about women—all, that is, except how to keep his wife (Young). There are some nifty illusions in the course of the picture, the greatest of which is contributed by Director Garnett rather than by the personable, persuasive hero. Garnett’s feat is hiding or glossing over the rents in a yarn as full of holes as 8 Warsaw street, The plot chasms are still there, but the Niven personality, the Young beauty, the tomfoolery of Hugh Herbert and the match-~ less ‘genius of ZaSu Pitts (and hands) all help Tay to make ‘Eternaily Yours” a pleasant trifle. The story asks us to believe that charming David so under- stands women that he can snatch the charming heroine prac- tically from the brink of marriage to her bumptious fiance (Craw- ford) and while she pines for a quiet country home, the magician prefers the excitement and travel of his career, never once dream- ing she’s fed up with it until after she's left him. He cracks up then, but he comes back when she’s married again-—-and by making himself a nuisance generally he wins the gal back. By appy coincidence, otherwise unexplained, it develops that her Reno divorce was illegal, so the happy pair are free to repair to the country home and live merrily forever after—presumably on At (s\!r: reception cherming hostessess give thoughtful guests who bring gifts of deliclous Van Duyn Candles. Suspenseful shots: Niven, handcuffed, doing parachute jumps from 15,000 feet. “BAD LITTLE ANGEL." Screenplay by Derothy Yost from boek’ by Margaret Twnbull, Directed by William Thiele. Cast: Virginia Weidler, Gene Reypvlds, Guy Kibbee, Yan Hunler, Elizabeth Patterson, Reginald Owen, Henry Hull, Lois Wilson. Some day producers and public are going to “diseover” this Weidler child in a big way. Meanwhile, only because she’s in it, “Bad Little Angel” will serve. Laid in a period shortly after the Civil War, the story smacks more than fainily of the Horatio Alger fiction era, with over- tones of Elsie Dinsmore. This particular Elsie, however, is a youngster of strong character and determination—and she's played superlatively by the Weidler child. Patsy is an orphan who in time, of trouble turns to the Bible, selecting a verse at random as her guide. The good book lcads her on a flight into Egypt (N. J) and thence into a “good fight” for the kindly family (Tan Hunter’s) that befriends her. There'’s the village bootblack (Reynolds), son of the village drunkard (Hull), and the old skinflint (Kibbee). Patsy and the Bible never muss. Together they hit the jackpot five times out of five—and everything is lovely at the end. It's quaint, and it’s cute, and Virginia Weidler is a darb.
