AT nyYN SHOCOLATE SHOPS Try 1t} Percy’s exclusively an announcement about Lamour and Preston? Wouldn't that be sweet-—just as Bob is getting off the train at Chicago, making a personal appearance with a Lamour picture? Fine thing. I'd be safe, because I'd Just stay home. But Bob, he'd be out on a limb. “There’s another thing. Somebody wrote that the Lamour- Preston thing couldn't be, because Bob was only 21. That makes Lamour sound like a decrepit old lady, doesn't it?” (She's 22.) 1 suggested this was probably a publicity tie-up between Paramount and Warner Bros., the latter being interested in a number about “Elizabeth and Essex,” and Lamour thought there might be something in it. Personally, it occurred to me that one simple way to stop ‘romance reports” is for the lady concerned .and the gentleman, to stop running around places together, acting just as the pub- licity department wants them to act. But it never occurs to the lady—or gent—to follow his simple rule, so here’'s no helping hand 1 can give. Besides, I'm an unromantic soul and don't give a hoot who's going with whom. The matter is much less interesting, to me at least, than such a scientifically pertinent matter as this: what ever becomes of Lamour’s used sarongs? Are they cut up into so many hundreds of wipers for used razor blades, or what? Lamour herself doesn't know. One's in a museum, and the rest—they just wear out, what with the beatings she takes in storm, wind and fury of picturess like “Typhoon” and “Hur- ricane.” “I do know, though,” says D. Lamour, “that I haven't got one—and I'd like to have.”
