Suricome! rnfi./»\[n: reception charming hostessess give thoughtful guests who bring gifts of delicfous Van Duyn Candies. Little attentions make you a "must come" guest., Try it! TRESH NOwW AT Percy’s exclusively Here'’s a light eomedy, deftly told, of a rich mau who brings into his home & girl he's picked up in the park. Purpose: to make his straying wife (Teasdale) pay him some notice. The rich man has a daughter wno's in love with the chauf- feur (Ellison), a boy with revolutionary leanings. The spoiled son of the house (Holt) thinks like the others that Mary Grey (Ginger) is no better than she should be, learns finally that Mary is merely employed by his father, and in the meanthine—having shouldered the business burdens of hils dad—hecones eligible {or the final clinch. The story, lean enough in ordinary hands, is given distinction in LaCava’s, and conta.ns enough bright dinlogue and human situations to make it one of the season’s beiler comedies “THE STAR MAKER.” nplay by Frank Butler, Don Hartman, Arthur Caesar. Directcd by Ray Del Ruth. Cast: Bing Crosby, Louise Campbell, Linda Ware, Ned Sparks, Walter Dam- rosch, Laura Hone Ciows, neither to Bing Crosby nor to “kiddies,” » novie without a story, you may MHke this If you are and don’t mindi one. Suggested by the career of Gus Edwards, the Columbus of kiddies in an earlier day, “The Star Maker' shows Bing as a nonchalant young fellow obsessed by theatre and shy to regular jobs. Married to Miss Campbell, Lo stays broke until his “idea” for a kid show clicks. Then he gets famous—thirough one kid show after another—until the Gerry Society steps in (this is the climax), forcing him finally to turn to the “new” medium of radio. Linda Ware, 14, much-touied coloratura and jazz singer, is effective only fn her number with the symphony conducted by Walter Damrosch. For algin addiets there are presentations of *Bchool Days” and “Sunbonuet Sue” and there are moments when “The Star Maker” becomes a lively musical.
