Prompt action of the Sitka vol- unteer fire department saved what would probably have been a serious {loss to the Columbia Lumber Com- pany of Alaska, Sitka branch, in answering a call at 3 a.m. Friday. The alarm was turned in by a native passing by, who noticed smoke pouring from the boiler room of the company's mill. It is believ- ed, although covered by insurance the company will not put in a claim, as repairs to the building had been planned.
