BONNER Second Base Center Field Catcher Right Field Parade to Field Commences Triangle Place; Honorary Batterws to O pen Season With the Juneau City Band leading off in full tune, Gas- tineau Channel's 1938 Baseball Season will get under way tomorrow afternoon at Triangle Corner in the heart of Juneau, where officials, players and fans will congregate to parade to the playing field at Firemen's Park. The band will make the drive to the park by bus, while private cars will follow directly behind, bearing the players, officials and fans. At the ballfield, the spectators will view baseball’s traditional opening ceremony: The pitching of the first ball of the 1938 season by honmuy batteries. Secretary of Alaska, E. W. Griffin has been named honorary pitcher to hurl the first ball this year; while catching him will be Juneau’s Mayor, Harry I. Lucas. Governor to Umpire Governor of Alaska, John W. Troy will briefly don pad and sk to call the balls and strikes as Pitcher Griffin whips them ove! nd honorary hitter J. J. Connors, Collector of Customs, slashes at them. Then, the Moose will take the field for the real beginning of the season. Umpires George Shaw, Robert Coughlin and Donald Hagerty will take their places behind the bat and on the bases; then—“PLAY BALL!" The season will be under way, with the Islanders stepping into the batter’s box. Band to Play During both the ceremonies and the game, the band will be perched in the stands set to play during all intermissions in the program. Ball fans are urged to patronize these merchants for their voluntary support of the baseball league as here shown.
