B THE DAILY ALASKA EMPIRE VOL. LL, NO. 7696. “ALL THE NEW § ~ JUNEAU, ALASKA, FRIDAY, JANUARY 21, 1938. S ALL THE TIME” MEMBER ASSOCIATED PRESS "PRICE TEN CENTS ORIENTAL PLOT DISCOVERED IN SEATTLE SLAYER TAKES OFFICERS INTO HIDING PLACE Abducted Chi(;ago Manu- facturer, Accomplice Killed by Anders MORE CRIMES ARE BEING CONFESSED Bank Robb;‘E Are Added to Growing List — Ran- som Money Recovered ST. PAUL, Minn, Jan. 21.—An amazing story of kidnapings, slay ings and bank robberies, attributed to Peter Anders, surly former lum- berjack, was related after the re- covery of the bodies of Charles A, Ross, abducted Chicago manufa urer, and James Atwood Gray, ac- complice in the kidnaping, in a cave, deep in the northern Wiscon- sin woods. Whisking Anders back to St. Paul after a tortuous two-day foray in the frozen fastnesses of Minne- sota and Wisconsin, FBI, J. Edgar Hoover, said all of the $50,000 ransom paid in vain for the release of Ross, has been recovered or accounted for. Anders detailed each of his num- | erous crimes, the confession cov- ering thousands of words, said | Hoover. Hoover said Anders killed his ac- complice Gray during an argument over the ransom money. Another Kidnaping Hoover also said Anders confess- ed to the kidnaping of John Borg and his wife Olivia in Chicago, robbing one Minnesota and three Wisconsin banks. The Brogias were released without any ransom be- ing paid. i When Anders was arrested last Friday, a week ago today, at the Santa Anita race track in Cali- fornia, he possessed about $14,000. Hoover said an additional $30,000 was found hidden in Minnesota woods. Robbed in N. Y. Anders said $3,000 to $6,000, the balance, was stolen from his auto- mobile in New York City. The the latter nude, were found just before dark yesterday. Small brush concealed the cave in a desolate section, 12 miles north of Spooner, Wisconsin.
