That is the consensus among fans of the grunt and groan game who saw the eight “rasslin’” artists on the bill. “Bad” Bill Byington, Oregon pret- zel twister, won the headline event from “Doc” Webb, two falls out of three in a' no time limit match that was so “good and dirty” even the referee had to get into the fight. The semi-final mateh, a 45-min- ute, two out of three falls muscle bender, ended with one fall apiece for a draw, Walter Gasten, Old Mexico showman, taking the first, and Bill Walthers, local mine shift- er, getting the second fall. In the semi-final 30 minute, one fall match, Bob Bryant, California boy with a lot of speed and condi- tion, took the winning fall half way through the circuit from Jerry Fin- cher, Oklahoma University star. The curtain raiser, a 10 minute bout between Mike Daniloff and Gil DeVault, showed two Juneau High School lads doing the wrest- ling act in regular professional stvle, but what pleased the crowd is that the boys were actually “play- ing for® kee; The match was a popular draw. MAIN EVENTER In the first round of the main eventer, Byington started from the sound of the dishpan gong to dish out the fcotball tactics he was supposed to dish out, but after miss- ing a flying buck that nearly put him in the aisles, he quit and threw a head scissors on Webb. | Webb worked loose and threw a grapevine—then “Doctor” ‘Webb began pulling Bad Bill's hair in ungentlemanly fashion so the ref-; eree pulled “Doc’s” to get even. | Bad Bill laid to then with a nasty toe hold (and got a bite in| the ear for his troubles)—which| must have roused Mr. Byington’s ire for he turned around (quick,| like Flash Gordon) and tried to pull the genial country doctor’s arm | off in an arm bar hold for a few| minutes. | “Doc” finally got up and -hit Bad| Bill an elbow smash that hurt and jumped on Bill with a toe hold,| SPARK PLUG 0G - THE DAILY ALASK ©STOP DRIBBLIN' aN' COME TO Tw!' Gaston worked ocut, got a cruci- fell into a Wallpers body and toe hold, and then ! loose to do a cute little trapeze the fans are still wondering about He ran across the ring, bbed the ropes, swung back on his head pumping himself gracefully in a wide arc until Walters jumped on him and in a few minutes cked a fall out of the mighty Old M ican showman with a bodv Time, 6 minutes and 20 seconds. Second Round The next round, as in most wrest- ling bouts, went to Big Bad Bill when he concentrated on throwing crucifixes, which he led up to with| grapevine, toe hold, another toe| hold, (then a fight with the referee) | followed by a cradle hold, just be- fore the fatal crucifix. Fans had to look twice during this round and the third round to see if the bill had been printed correctly—there seemed to be con-| stantly three men wrestling instead of two. Gordon Muma, referee, just couldn't keep the boys playing cricket without getting nasty him- self. The crowd pulled him out of a double ankle lock in the second round, and in the third, helped him back into the ring after he had been thrown unceremoniously out.| But Muma, who actually was a good referee, came back to his task with one of those “It is my duty— I must keep these men fighting clean” looks—and took a couple of punches at his charges now and then to even the score. Whether it was scene six in act three, or not, the fans liked it. | It was a cradle hold that won| the last fall for Byrington and the match.
