Improvements Made A great many improvements and |changes have been made dn the school buildings during the summer. The Grade School has been given a thorough cleaning. Most rooms and halls have been reGecorated. Old desks in some rooms, badly carved by hands of years ago, have been |re-finished and now look like new. The entire Grade School, except | for two rooms, has been equipped |with the latest design in artificial lighting for public schools. This has been done at considerable ex- pense, but is a much needed and |desired improvement. Ample light- ing for even the closest kind of reading, yet no shadows anywhere in the rooms. Miss Ryan has been spend- ing the summer vacation with her parents in Seattle. Martin Pedersen, Superintendent of the Douglas school, is a north- bound passenger on the Alaska which left Seattle today. Pedersen tually have both schools completely equipped with this or similar light- ning equipment. All three boilers have been re- bricked and cleaned. The oil bur- ners have been completely over- hauled and the hue 120 barrel oil tank has been completely cleaned out—the first time in fifteen years. The most famed heart- throb- ber in Hollywood, Robert Taylor, had another narrow escape in this fog-coated city. He was greeted by 3,000 scream- jing movie fans who almost mobbed him. The actor escaped through the luggage elevator while the wo- men stalked him in a surging crowd outside. This was Robert’s second narrow escape on his current voyage. As he was leaving New York, officials dragged two glamor-crazed women from beneath his bed. Taylor was not quoted as dis- closing the secret of his appeal.
