It was about 1900 that John Sisul left his home in Europe and came to the United States, and 30 years ago that he and Mort Truesdell first met in Easton, Washington. It was then that they found that they each had the same birthday, February 27, and for many ars the old friends have celebrated their birth- days together or, when they have been apart, have exchanged greet- ings. Sisul, Coines to Alaska The gold rush to Nome in about 1908 first attracted Sisul to Alaska, and it was in 1914 that he first came |to Gastineau Channel and worked at the portal camp in Sheep Creek Basin for the Alaska Gastincau Mining Company for several years. In 1919 he started in the restaurant | business with Tom Darby, first at the present location of the Sani- tary Grocery. They were burned out there, moved across to the Triangle corner and in 1927 moved again to the present location of the U & 1 Walmer and su? In 1929 John H. Walme: out the Tom Darby interest in the U & I and Sisul and Walmer re-| mained partners as long as Sisul continued in business. Several years ago, Walmer bought out his part- ner when he was returning to Jugo- | slavia, with the understanding that if Sisul wished to return and go into business again, the partnership would be resumed.
