A magnificent jiews our contest n traveling soutis over Southern Pacific. ento Valley of Californ! although | For Girls No w in Juneau or on Gastineau Channel REGULATIONS Circulation Contest 11.—These rules shall govern and any statement or gromise made by any one, other than printed in The Empire or in these rules shall not be binding on the publisher. 12—In case of typographical or other error, it is understood that neither the publisher nor the campaign manager shall be held responsible except for the necessary correction upon the same. 13—It is distinctly understood and agreed that candidates will be re- sponsible for all moneys collected and that they will remit in full promptly. % 14—The capital prizes are at least two free trips (all expenses paid) to California and Old Mexico and will be made with a party of winners in other contests staged by newspapers of Alaska, Wash- ington and Oregon. The tentative schedule of this trip calls for leaving Juneau about April 1st by a lines of the Alaska Steam- ship Company. 15—There will be other prizes in either cash or trade orders, the exact amount to be announced later in the campaign. Active can< didates who do not win the trip or the cash or trade otder priaes, but who remain active throughout the campagn will be paid ten percent of the amount they turn in in cash. To be regarded as active a candidate must have turned in cash on at least twa subscriptions each week during the contest, starting the seccnd week after the initial announcement. 16.—The management reserves the right to amend or add to the rules of the campaign if necessary for the protection of the interests of both the candidates and the newspaper, except that it agrees thab the prizes must bé awarded. It also has the right to add additional prizes. 17.—The Daily Alaska Empire guarantees fair and impartial treatment to all contestants, but should any question arise, the decision of the management shall be absolute and final. 18—The campaign opens February 18 and closes Saturday, March 27. The closing hour will be anounced later. 19.—The following vote schedule will appiy in this campaign. 'RULES AND Daily Alaska Empire —Any reputable girl residing in Southeastern Alaska over the age of 18 (unmarried) is, eligible to enter this campaign and compete for the prize trip to California and Old Mexico. Nominations may | be made at any time during the contest, the sooner the better. ! 2—The management reserves the right to reject any nomination, without publishing the reason for so doing. 3.—The winners of the prize trips and the smaller prizes will be decided by their accredited votes, said votes being represented by ballots issued on subscriptions, by the nominating ballot in The Empire and any free vote coupon which may be published in The i Empire from time to time. | 4-—Candidates are not confined to their particular town or community in which to secure votes and subscriptions, but may take orders anywhere. 5—Cash must accompany all orders, where votes are desired. There ! will be no exception to this rule. Candidates will be allowed to collect back subscriptions and renewals as well as entirely new subscriptions and votes will be issued on both. 6.—Votes are free. It costs the subscriber nothing extra to vote for his or her favorite. Subscribers should ask for votes when paying their subscriptions. ¢ 7.—Votes cannot be purchased. Every cent accepted through the campaign department must represent subscriptions. 8- Votes once cast are not transferable. A candidate cannot with- draw and transfer any votes cast in favor of another candidate. Any effort or collusion of the part of any candidate or candidates to discourage competition by the spreading of false rumors or exaggerated stories, or anything done by any candidate or candi- s to the detriment of this newspaper or contest will not be ated and any candidate or candidates violating this rule may be barred from receiving a prize in the contest. !
