Leader of the survey is Dr. T. .J. Pyle, in charge of dental work in he Territory for the Indian Of- ice, Juneau. In Fairbanks today, Joctor Pyle said that with Dr. L. Vi. Waugh of Columbia University, New York, and with another lab- sratory technician or bacteriologist, he will fly to resume work among the native peoples around Hooper Bay, Nunivak Island, and Kipnip. The Eskimos at the places the party will work live entirely on their native diet. “If we can cor- relate the relation between their diet and living conditions to their perfect teeth, we may be able to determine why white people have such poor teeth,” Doctor Pyle said. “From childhood t death these Eskimo people have perfect teeth,” the doctor continued. “But as soon as they come in contact with the white trader dental trouble starts. Before the advent of the white man they may wear their teeth down, but such loss is not caused by de- cay.” Last summer Doctors Pyle and Waugh studied summer living con- ditions of the Eskimos and their diet. They found the native dental con- dition perfect. The coming spring and summer they will make a more comprehensive study, chemical anal- CUZ I FERGOT T!' Doctor Pyle planned to leave Fairbanks today for Nenana! From tHere He will go to Anchorage where a plane has been chartered for the duration of the expedition. It is a Pilgrim, piloted by M. W. Sasseen of Anchorage and Bethel. Doctor Waugh of Columbia and & bacteriologist, are now en route to Alaska. They are expected to reach Fairbanks about the middle of “Pebruary.
