Mbelant demands FAMILIES OF STRIKERS TO RECENVE AIDET————— State Public Welfare Department assured needy families of maritime strikers they will be cared for “on the basis of need and not as strik- ers.” Delegates called on Verne Gra- ham, assistant to Director Charles Ernst at a conference in the Gov- ernor's Office. It is estimated that needy families total from 1,000 to 1,500 with several hundred in dire need, including 250 at Seattle, 50 at Olympia and 20 at Bellingham Acts of Heroism Are Displayed by Slide Searchers ‘Many ‘acts 0f heroilsm are being displayed by the members of the crews searching in the slide ruins and this heroism is just in the line of humanitarian work, cheerfully given with no reward. Jed MeMars, of the H. 8. Graves |store, led an attack on timbers last Sunday night that were pin- |ning down Mrs. William Lott. He is said to be responsible for dis- covering her position in the ruins.| Bill O'Mally, Chuck Dominy, Mi- | nard Mills, Kinky Bayers and oth- ers were in the same crew. Dr. W P. Blanton crawled in beneath the timbers twice to administer a hy- podermic in the wrist of Mrs. Lott, the only part of her body visible at first. Extremely dangerous work is ex- perienced in the search on account of the shifting and settling of the mass. e — RHODA MAY CLARK—Foot co» rectionist. 517 Goldstein Bldg. adv.
