Engincer Reports Damage to Highway and White Pass Railroad There were really three floods in Ekagway causing damage to high- wav ond railrord, according to D's- trict Engineer M. D. Williams of the Lureau of Public Roads, who re- turned to his office’ here at the week end after a survey of the dis- trict. The first flood did much of the damage, he reported, but on two other occasions within a few days the water rose to the same’ level again as the result of torrential rains in the mountains. Temporary repair will be§ made on the latter to accommodate residents of the community. The White Pass and. Yukon Route lost a portion of two hridges, one of which is now repaired and the other which probably will not be in shape to run trains over for a month or 50, In the meantime, Mr. Williams explained, his office has made 2 temporary repair on what is known as the old Brackett road and pas- sengers are being taken from the White Pass trains at Boulder Junc- tion, about four miles above Skag- way, and transfered by automobile to Bkagway. The half mile on the Bkagwey road is a complete loss, the Engin- eer sald, the flood having coursed right down the road, washing most of it into the roaring Skagway river. —————— Try an Empire ad Beware Cough from common colds That Hang Oa No matter how many medicines you have tried f¢ cough, cold or bmnchh?r O T odious' music furmished by Clar- ence Rand’s Orchestra of Juneau. -,e——— .HAVDAHL GIVES PARTY Obert Havdahl was hest to a number of his friends at a party given at the Havdahl home in Treadwell yesterday afternoon. In an interview, Mr. Lee tells of their activifies in that section. The dredge was formerly known as the Nome Montana gold dredge, it was a stacker type, steam driven dredge which had not been used for several years. The Lee Brothers acquired the dredge and remodeling began in May. At least one hundred tons {of obsolete equipment was removed and the dredge was made modern and up-to-date by changing it to a |flume type and installing 2 Cum- mins dicse] engines for power. The dredge was completed and digging \operations began the second of | September and has been perform- jing satisfactorily ever since. | Twelve persons constitute the jcrew, day and night shifts being, the rule. Bedrock is from 12 to 14 feet. Mr. Lee stated that the first cleanup was satisfactory in every irespect and hoped to work con- ! | tinuously until the freezeup. | | >-eo—— { Mrs. Mary Dawe of Wamego, Kas., | bas a Bible containing & récord of | iall family births, deaths and wed- | dings tor the last 134 years.
