i o e o Establishment of Clini¢ Will Prove of Benefit to Publu' Purpose ()utlmod. : Fulfillment of an uld dream of Dr. W. W. Council and of many other Alaskan physiciang is' embodied in the newly completed Juneau Medi- cal and Surgical Clinic. Ever since Dr. Coungil fitst came to Juneau he has believed that such a clini¢ is the most needed forward step in the progress’ of medicine in the Terri- tory. At seyeral different times dur- jng the last fiftéen years, attempts have ‘been made by different groups of Juneau physicians, with Dr. Council prominent in the tion eéach time. Though tries were unsuccessful,, L_he groundwork that has hng former o daid led " the ~estabiishment of, ‘the; new C!mir & Clini where * several - doctors combine their abilities toward mak- ing an all-around medical estab- lshment accessible to more equip- ! ment than it is possible for one to maintain alone, are the modern trend in the practice of medicine and are steadily increasing in favor| in the United States and Europe. Clinic Fermulated First consideration of the Clinic as it is now realized was effected| in March of this year, when Dr Council returried from his vacation in the States. At that time he con- Xencd wllh Ir. C. C. Carter and BODDING TRANSFER is gratified to have been of service in the c o n struction ofthenew medical cen- ter that is to serve Juneau. promo- | Dr. W. M. Whitehead and it was decided to proceed with the enter- made the re prise. Arrarigements were with Charles Goldstein for medelling of the second floor of the Goldstein Building in accord- ance with the needs of the Clinic, and the H. B. Foss Company Wwas retained to draft thé plans and supervise construction. Contract for the construction was let to the Warrack Construction Company in ‘April of this year and work commenced immediately. {Upon Mr. Warrack’s relurn from Mexico, shortly after work had started, he pronouncea the plans for the new clinic as nearly ideal, in Iviéew of inspections he had made of like institutions in the South. Ancther Doctor Interested | Dr. William T. Blanton became a {member of the clinic group early yin April, and at that time slight changes were made in the plans to accemmodate him, but without af- {fecting their excellence. Construc-) ition was completed on August 1 and the clinic was ready for occupancy. yImmediately, furnishings were put in place and by August 5 all equip- ment was installed and the doctor! were moved into their new loca- tion, ready to commence practice, as one group. From the first, the Clinic has met Wwith public favor and already many patients have| taken advantage of the new health| center. Dr. R. H. Williams, though not a| member of the Clinic group, was| leased space in the new institution | shortly after it was commenced, in order to round out the services available to patients by incorporat- ing dentistry along with the other| branches of medical practice. Many Advantages ‘The advantages of the clinic type of medical institution are many: Outstanding among them are: ex- pensive equipment negessary to the most efficient treatinent of ail- ments made available to doctors: not connected with great metropoli- | tan hospitals. Such equipment is far too costly to be maintained by individual doctors. Also, such an institution it possible for each member physi- cian and surgeon to conduct his J[)l ivate practice and in addition al- low each to specialize in some field of medicine for which he feels |himself best fitted to the end that |all branches of medical practice will e represented in the group by out- and the SURGICAL JUNEAU MEDICAL AND Thanks to MR.
