R OF THE EXTUPLETS _EVERYONE iE ?ALK\NG KNOw IVE MADE A WiLL \.ELV\NG YOUR SONS ' SiX’ MILLION DOLLAR MOST WORTHY GRAND MATRON " Mrs. Frances Haun. Arrives Here — Extensive Al- aska Tour Plax}ned (Continued trom rage ne) afforded by the Alaska Railroad, the White Pass and Yukon Route, and four plane mps—-cwo in. char- tered planes. After leaving Juncau she expects to visit Skarway, Whitehorse Daw- son, Fort Yukon, Circle, Nenans, rairbanks, Nome, Anchorage, Sew- ard, Valdez and Cordova. First Visit 6 Years Mrs. Haun reported that it has been six years since any part of Alaska has had an official visita- tion. Many chapters, including Nome, have never been visited by any Grand Chapter official. She stated that she is very much im- pressed with the remarkable spirit of cooperation among Alaskans, whom she describes as interesting and capable people of high caliber with exwremely fine qualities of sportsmanship. “I am delighted with the high type of manhood and womanhood in Alaska,” said. Fine Experience She stated that as a result of the announcement of her proposed Alaskan tour at a convention held in Wichita, Kansas, last April, the newspapers made much of her de- termination to spend so much time in the Territory in preference to other sections over which she has jurisdiction. “I thought of my Al- askan trip as a duty, at that time,” Mrs. Haun said, sider it one of the finest experi-| ences of my life.” Visit Tonight Mrs. Haun her plan 1s to become socially acquainted with the members of the chapters she visits and to attend ritualistic meetings before offering advice and demon- stration of necessary work. Tonight she will attend a special meeting of Juneau Chapter No. 7 to which the Douglas Chapter has been in- vited. Tuesday night a special| meeting will be held in Douglas for Mrs. Haun, and on Thursday a luncheon will be held in Juneau in . her honor. * Community Hall Turn e’d' - J Mrs. Haun related a number of interes.inz experiences since she has been elevated to her high of- fice. Her term is for three years and as Chief Executive of the Grand Chapter -she has joint jurisdiction with. Scotland, over continental Europe. She reported that there are| now no active chapters on the Con- tinent - but preliminary. work had been bezun before the Europzan War and she hopes that the work will be continued in the near future. | SCARLATINA AT PALMER Into Hospital—Four Doctors on Scene PALMER, Alaska, July 13.—Five cases of 'scarlatina have developed hete and the Community Hall has been converted into an isolation hospital. McBain, who was very much - interested fishing oecause of articles appear- ing in sporting magazines, did not get a strike. Trout and Grunigen, who had formerly inclined toward fresh water stream fishing, each played a salmon, but both lost their fish. Breaks Fishing Jinx Trout, who is Vice-President and Sales Manager of the Macco Con- struction Company, of Los Angeles, believes that he has broken a fish- ing jinx that has followed him for |a number of years. Prior to the |excursion to Lake Patco, Trout re- marked that no matter how favor- able advance reports might be, any fishing party which he attended, was hoodooed. Trout returned frem the trout-fishing trip with a large catch of exceptionally fine cut- |throats. He is already making plans for a return trip to Alaska, pos- {sibly next Septembes, hunt, but stated that he also would |find time for more fishing on his | next trip. The Californians carry photo- graphic equipment for taking mo- | tion pictures in all colors by a new | process which reproduces every tone |and shade of color. Poor light con- !ditions have prevented exposure of jany film since . their . arrival in Juneau but they hope to get some fishing pictures before their de- parture for Los Angeles. McBain |expressed gratitude that The Em- |pire mentioned the size and weight of fish taken on the lake excursion. “We might have had trouble in |convincing our various wives that we really caught that sort of fish, without newspaper corroboration,” he said. McBain stated that he has never séen fresh water fishing under such ideal conditions as exist in Alaska. He added that all three Californ- ians have spent many hours in the air and that they are ‘unanimous in their praise of the skill dis- played by Pilot Simmons in alight- ing upon the lake visited on their lishing trip, and his ' compatence in returning to Juneau under very |unfavorable weather conditions. in that type of for a bear| en to the hospital.
