While he was in Ketchikan a Better Housing cam- paign was started which is to be pushed through rapidly, he said It will be under the supervision of Ralph Bartholemew, in the ab- sence ofLester Gore, General Chairman of the Better Housing Committee in that city. H. I TLucas, Executive Secre- tary, who was taken ill with influ- enza shortly after his arrival in Ketchikan 10 days ago, is consid- erably improved and will see the Better Housing campaign under way before taking passage to Pét- ercburg on the Northland this week. He will start a campaign in Petersburg and return to Wran- gell where a similar campaign will be carried out and is expected to arrive in Juneau next week, Mr Pegues said. Taylor, Chief Engineer with the Alaska Road Commission, | to prepare for their part in the Steel contractors on the Juneau- . | STEELWORKERS 175 PASSENGERS ON NORTHLAND SEATTLE, Feb. 26—Motorship Northland sailed at 10:30 o'clock this morning for Southeast Alaska ports with a capacity passenger list. The following passengers aboard the. Northland are booked for. Ju- peau: Mrs. Clara Robinson, F. Fergu- son, Miss Rose O'Neill, Glen Neit- zert, W. C. Vance, Mrs. Anna building of the structure. Mr. Taylor, recently returned to! Juneau from & vacation in the Ctates, sent the radio yesterday to the Pacliic Car and Foundry Com- pany of Seattle, holders of the steel fabrication and erection contract for the bridge. The radio was prompted by the testing of the under-water concrete construetion on the last pier to be built by Dishaw and Sons, Juneau firm which js handlfng that end cf the bunilding. The work was md to be satisfac and the seal” im perfeet condition. About two or three more weeks remain on the Dishaw end of the work, Taylor reported. This time will be spent in pouring “dry” conerete on the superstructure of the pier above the water line. When this eonstruction is com- pleted, the bridge will be ready for the erection of the steel frame- work. Mr. Taylor said that, with the pler work completed, he expected to see the bridge ready for epen- ing sometime around June 30. It is expected that the steel erection work will take about three months. The fill work at the Douglas Island approach to the structure, the last item ‘to be done on the f bridge, probably will take about which they were presented, Mr. } Pegues said. “Many inquiries were received at Ketchikan concerning the oper- ation of Title Two and a number of people expressed their desire to apply for loans for new construe- tion and others to refinance ex- isting mortgages, while a number planned on proposed merits” he said. .- BETTY MAC BEAUTY SHOP | I New Loeation at 12th and B Streets PHONE 547 Lt S improve- | .
