The cash customers who attend- ed the City Basketball League’s doubleheader last night in Juneau High School got their money’s worth, all right, even though no drastic changes were made in the circuit standings as the result of the games. In the opener the crowd saw tall, red-haired Lloyd Bayers col- lect 32 points as DeMolays crushed an outclassed, but much improved Moose team, 82 to 35. Then, in the nightcap, the fans were treated to as nip-and-tuck a fracas as the current season has developed when Juneau's firemen nosed out the Fire Laddies from Douglas, 48 to 41, Bayers, by amassing 32 points via 14 field goals and four foul tosses, goes into the scoring lead, jumping from third to first place over Paul Brown, Krause Concreters, and Bob Mc- Phee, George Brethers. Bayers now has 104 points; Brown, 82; and McPhee, 75. Both McPhee and Bay- ers have one more game to play before ‘concluding their first half seasonal scoring. ‘True, His teammates 16d Mim G, ball, but Bayers deserved his total, which, incidentally, falls just ten points short of McPhee’s high sin- | gle-game tally of 42 markers. Dwarfed by Bayers’ huge total were the very respectable 14-point scoring figures made by Hilding Hagland and Capt. Elmer Lind- strom. Jerry Ledbetter was high for the improved Moose club which was dangerously near collapse in its last game, but which showed improvement last night. Big Red Frodle, guard and center, especially evidenced better play. The finale was just one of those “you-score-and-then-I-will” affairs. The half-time tally favored the Ju- neau Firemen, 21 to 20, but Doug Gray tied it up as the third quar- ter began with a foul shot rotg Douglas Firemen. | Then, after five minutes of hard | battling, in which the visitors ex- | hibited some nifty floor work and | clever passing, Douglas forged to a 25-22 lead. But that advantage | was shortlived, and, after Jimmy Orme dribbled in from the side to ‘pot a cripple to give Juneau to 26-25 lead a few moments later, the | winners were never headed. Once, with a minute to go, the lads from across the Channel came up to 41-44, but baskets by Stan | Grummett ‘and Stan Hill — two players who starred brilliantly for the winners—put the game on iee.
