MILLER TAKES POISON, DIES Pioneer Educator of In- dians Passes Away —LUnconscious ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Oct. 15.— Arthur H. Miller, District Superin- tendent of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and pioncer educator of thousands of Alaskan Indians, was found unconscious. in his home with an empty acid bottle at his side. He died within a short time in the hospital without regaining consciousness. A note left said: “No one is to blame.” Miller suffered a nervous col- lapse reeently, his assoclates said. ‘He was to have been transferred shortly to division headquarters at Juneau. RECKLESS DRIVING STATUTE IS SOUGHT One of the four recommendations made by the recent grand jury at Ketchikan is a law against drunk- en driving. The report says there is no statute at present against reckless driving on public high- ways in the Territorial law. The need for such a law, it was pointed out, is especially asked against reckless driving engaged in by in- toxicated persons. % Other recommendations included a Deputy United States Marshal at Hyder and a raise in pay for jurors and witnesses. - e mhmwuuuml} 5 P.
